Suite Seta
The historical origins of silk processing in Como date back to the 16th century, but it was mainly with industrialization in the second half of the 19th century in Lombardy that the Como city gained European leadership in the production and export of the precious fabrics.
This is why the room is inspired by silk, of which the city of Como is also home to a historic specialized educational training institute, the silk factory, and a thematic silk museum. To date, the museum’s collection has more than 3,300 individual textile artifacts, and more than 2,500 sample books that together illustrate the history of textiles from the 3rd to the 20th century.
The SETA Suite celebrates elegance and luxury. An oasis of comfort and beauty, where every detail reflects the rich history and timeless appeal of this iconic place.
An experience that goes beyond a simple stay.
The taupe color scheme characterizes this suite, echoing the hues of the original marble floor and thus creating an elegant envelope, the perfect backdrop for the exquisite paintings made from silk scarves. The golden details, which blend harmoniously with the silk, a fine fabric, further embellish the room.
The silk scarves are designed and produced by a local company in Como. The two more geometric paintings placed above the bed are signed by internationally renowned Italian designer Laura Biagiotti, while the 3 free-themed paintings above the luggage rack are signed by local Como brand Marina d’Este.
As for the bathrooms, they match the style of the room, feature the same details of colors and materials. The stoneware tile is a modern reproduction of the classic Sant’Agostino seminato or palladiana ceramic tile, the typical floor found in historic homes on Lake Como.
All sanitary ware, faucets and ceramics are Made in Italy produced by Italian companies. While the furniture was made to the architect’s design by a local craftsman from Cantù, a city famous worldwide for woodworking.
The emotional shower is equipped with chromotherapy, while the washbasins, carved in stone, evoke a strong connection with nature. The toilets, which are rimless and feature Hatria’s “pure vortex” technology, received the prestigious ‘Red Dot Award 2024’ in the ‘Sanitary and Bathroom Equipment’ category for their innovative design.
For the appliances, iconic pieces of Italian design from the 1950s, produced by SMEG, were chosen. Revisited with the latest technology, they retain their unmistakable style. The coffee machine, developed by SMEG in collaboration with Lavazza, offers authentic Italian coffee, strictly Lavazza, for GL Home guests.
In the entrance hall, the famous Lettera 22 by Olivetti, the most famous typewriter of 20th century Italian design, dominates. This precious object, which belonged to the GL Home owner’s grandparents who once lived here, was found in the attic during renovations. On the shelves, one can admire vintage postcards from the early 1900s, depicting images of Lake Como.
